Introduction
Big Daddy Boss Bets (Pty) Ltd. (hereafter referred to as “Boss Bets“) is a licensed gambling operator that offers online sports betting to customers in South Africa. We are committed to providing a safe, fair, and enjoyable gambling experience for our customers and staff. We recognise that gambling can have negative impacts on some individuals and communities, and we take our responsibility to prevent and reduce gambling-related harm seriously. We adhere to the highest standards of responsible gambling and comply with all the relevant laws and regulations.
What is Problem Gambling?
Problem gambling occurs when people have difficulty limiting the amount of money and time they spend gambling. This can harm the individual, their family and friends, and the wider community. Support is available to anyone who is directly or indirectly impacted by gambling-related problems.
Possible signs that family and friends of problem gamblers may observe include:
- being preoccupied with and prioritising gambling over family and social obligations;
- repeatedly trying to control, cut back, or stop gambling unsuccessfully;
- gambling as a way of escaping from problems or relief from feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety and depression;
- committing illegal acts such as forgery, fraud and theft to fund gambling;
- using family finances to fund gambling activities;
- jeopardising or losing a significant relationship, job, or career opportunity because of gambling;
- lying to conceal the extent of their involvement in gambling.
Signs of Responsible Gambling
People who gamble without it negatively impacting their life generally:
- think of gambling as entertainment, not a way to make money;
- only gamble with money they can afford to lose;
- set a spending limit in advance;
- give themselves a time limit and stick to it;
- take breaks;
- don’t gamble when depressed or upset;
- balance gambling with other activities;
- never chase losses;
- don’t drink or use drugs when gambling.
National Responsible Gambling Programme
Gambling regulators, such as national and provincial gambling boards acknowledge that gambling has negative effects on society as a whole. However, there are mechanisms in place to counter such problems. The SARGF is the entity which supervises the National Responsible Gambling Programme (“NRGP”) in co-operation with the gambling industry operators and governmental regulators.
The NRGP deals with problematic gambling tendencies and provides counselling, treatment and education at no cost to the public. The NRGP integrates education, research and treatment into one programme. One of the mechanisms implemented to ensure that a person who has developed a gambling addiction or may by showing signs of problem gambling, is the mechanism that excludes these individuals from participating in any one of the gambling activities offered nationally.
If you think you or someone you know may have a problem, Boss Bets encourages you to contact the National Responsible Gambling Foundation toll-free helpline on 0800 006 008 or WhatsApp ”HELP” to 076 675 0710. Additional resources, including self-help information and guides on counselling provided by the NRGP can be found at responsiblegambling.org.za.
Our Responsible Gambling Programme
We have developed and implemented a comprehensive responsible gambling programme that aims to:
- Inform and educate our customers and staff about the risks and benefits of gambling, the odds and payouts of different games, and the availability of gambling help services.
- Empower our customers and staff to make informed and responsible decisions about their gambling behaviour and expenditure.
- Support our customers and staff who may be experiencing gambling problems or are affected by someone else’s gambling.
- Collaborate with industry partners, regulators, and gambling help services to promote responsible gambling and prevent gambling-related harm.
Our responsible gambling programme includes the following measures:
1. Information and Education
We provide clear and accurate information and education on our website, as well as through our customer service and marketing channels, to help our customers and staff understand the nature and risks of gambling, the odds and payouts of different games, and the availability of gambling help services. We also display responsible gambling messages and reminders throughout our website, and on our receipts and statements.
2. Self-Exclusion
If you find yourself spending more money or betting more frequently than you’re comfortable with, facing challenges in evaluating risks, or struggling to set limits while enjoying our services as entertainment, the following information is provided to guide you on steps to self-exclude from any gambling activities.
Boss Bets fully supports the NRGP’s self-exclusion initiative. The NRGP’s role in this program involves counselling and aiding the individuals who have excluded themselves and their immediate family members. Self-exclusion is a legally governed program that allows a player to voluntarily exclude themselves from gambling activities. As per legislation, anyone can apply for exclusion.
If you wish to self-exclude from betting with Boss Bets, please reach out to support@bigdaddybossbets.co.za.
Once an individual is excluded from gambling activities, they cannot participate in any form of gambling for the specified duration.
You have the option to request temporary or permanent exclusion from Boss Bets:
- Temporary suspension: Your account will be suspended for a minimum of 1 to 3 months (you need to specify the duration in your request).
- Permanent self-exclusion: Your account will be closed for 6 months.
It’s essential to understand that a self-exclusion request, whether for temporary suspension or permanent exclusion, means you will be unable to:
- Deposit funds into your account.
- Place bets on any sports events or offerings by Boss Bets.
- Receive marketing notifications.
For a permanent self-exclusion request, any funds in your account will be returned, and your account will be suspended.
During your break from gambling, Boss Bets encourages you to engage in the NRGP’s counseling available to all self-excluded individuals.
As an additional layer of player protection, Boss Bets has implemented measures during sign-up and banking to make it challenging for self-excluded customers to open duplicate accounts.
For Boss Bets to verify your self-exclusion request and identity, you agree to provide a clear self-image of yourself holding your ID document/passport and a copy of your ID document/passport.
If you wish to self-exclude nationally (from all betting platforms, not just Boss Bets), please complete the provided form and submit it along with relevant documentation to support@bigdaddybossbets.co.za or directly to the provincial gambling board via email.
3. Staff Training and Support
We monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our responsible gambling programme and make improvements as needed. We collect and analyze data on our customers’ and staff’s gambling behavior and feedback, as well as the performance and outcomes of our responsible gambling measures. We also conduct regular audits and reviews of our responsible gambling policies and procedures, and report our findings and actions to our senior management and regulators. We welcome suggestions and comments from our customers, staff, and stakeholders on how we can improve our responsible gambling programme.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation
We train and support our staff to identify and assist customers who may be experiencing gambling problems or are affected by someone else’s gambling. We provide regular and ongoing training on responsible gambling, problem gambling, and gambling help services to all our staff, especially those who interact with customers directly or indirectly. We also provide support and guidance to our staff who may be experiencing gambling problems themselves or are affected by someone else’s gambling. We encourage our staff to seek help from our employee assistance program or external gambling help services if they need it.
5. Protection of Minors
Boss Bets excludes minors (persons under the age of 18) from registering and participating on its platform. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 years to gamble or open an account with any gambling websites. To comply with the law and provide an added layer of protection to individuals, Boss Bets carries out an age verification check on all customers as part of its registration requirements. Boss Bets also relies on the support of parents and carers. As such, we encourage our customers to please keep their access details safe and monitor the use of their devices at all times.
We would further recommend that you install filtering software solutions that will allow you to restrict internet access for children / under-aged people, which protects them from inappropriate web content. You can find more information on this topic at:
